1953 Hybrid Mayflower

This car literally turned up right under our noses. One day a message popped up on the Mayflowers email list from someone trying to determine the value of a Mayflower. I didn't think much of it until a while later this same person announced that the car was available on ebay. One thing led to another and we contacted the seller. Turns out the car was only about 12 miles or so from our shop! Of course we just had to "check it out". Well, one thing led to another and we decided to buy it. The car is in remarkably rust free condition overall. Both doors exhibit rust damage from water running down in through the window seals with the passenger door being the worst of the two. There is one small rust spot on the left rear quarter about the size of a half dollar.

The odd thing about this Mayflower is someone tried to make it into an MG! It has what I believe is an MG midget motor and transmission. It also seems to have an MGB front suspension assembly complete with rack and pinion. The differential has also been changed out to an MGB rear end. All of the work was nicely done and nothing appears to have really been hacked with the exception of the hole in the floor board for the shift lever. Fortunately that piece of sheet metal was laying on the back seat. Although to me the funniest change of all was the switch from a plain Trafficator on the steering wheel to one with the MG crest on it!

After its all said and done I think the car can be put back to original without to much effort. We have a 3rd Maylower (affectionately known as "Queenie" because it was rescued from Queen's NY) and is a total rust bucket but has all the odds and ends bits needed to put this one back into shape.

So the goal is to combine Queenie with this grey car and make one nice car. Time will tell...:)
