R.W. "Kas" Kastner
has been in the sports car business all of his life. He started
driving in 1952 with MG's and Jaguars, MG Specials, then Triumphs in 1954.
He was the SCCA and Cal Club champion in 1959.
He was the Service Manager for Cal Sales, Inc, the western states' Triumph importer. Kas started the Triumph Competition Department for Triumph USA. He was responsible for racing and research and development of Triumph cars in the USA. During his illustrious racing development career he authored Competition Preparation Manuals for each of the Triumph models. In 1971 he fielded a private team of Triumph cars, Formula 5000, Can-Am and Indy cars for several years with his company Kastner-Brophy Inc. He was also on the Board of Governors of the Cal Club, The Rules Enforcement Committee, and was the head instructor for the driver training program at Riverside for several years. In 1986 he became the National Motorsports Manager for Nissan Motor Corporation. He went on to become head of Nissan Performance Technology Inc. which was responsible for the GTP IMSA team. The team won the drivers title with Geoff Brabham for four consecutive years and the manufacturers title for Nissan three years in a row. Kas retired in 1995 and likes to travel with his wife Peggy, plays golf with a 11 handicap, and is now writing a book, "Kas Kastner's Triumph Preparation Handbook" on Triumph preparation, stories, anecdotes, and modification information. |
